GP Allergy Clinic

Who Do We See?
We see children over the age of 1 year, as well as adults.

How Long is an Appointment?
A typical allergy appointment lasts 45 minutes, including a consultation, Skin Prick Testing, a review of the results, and a personalised management plan.

What is a Skin Prick Test?
A Skin Prick Test involves placing a drop of allergen solution on the skin, which is then pricked with a lancet to test for allergies.

Is it Safe?
Yes, Skin Prick Testing is safe. Some patients may experience a mild skin reaction, but Dr. Foley is trained to handle any responses.

Do I Need to Prepare?
Please avoid antihistamines (e.g., Telfast, Zyrtec, Piriton) for 7 days (1 week) before your appointment, as they can affect the test results.

What Can Be Tested?
We test for most food and airborne allergens (e.g., hay fever). Dr. Foley will recommend the appropriate tests.

Do you see patients with eczema?
We do not see patients directly for eczema management. Eczema is a complex immune disease and can be reviewed in the GP Skin Clinic, with whom we collaborate.

Do you see patient with food intolerance?
We do not review patients or provide testing for patients who are suffering from suspected food intolerance, they are better serves by a nutritionist.

Will I Receive a Management Plan?
Yes, anyone with a food allergy will receive a personalised management plan, which can be shared with schools, childcare providers, or workplaces.
Will I Need Medication?
If necessary, we may prescribe allergy medication, including asthma inhalers, antihistamines, nasal sprays, or adrenaline autoinjectors (e.g., Epipen, Jext, Anipen)
